dear mae,

i don’t often get a chance to shower these days, i’m on a disgusting every third day rotation.  this however does leave me about 5 minutes to pull my hair up into a fantastical beehive occasionally.  i also might mention that i haven’t colored my hair in over two months. yikes! looks like i might be a mousy brunette before i get to get ginge again.  let me know if you care to make a donation to the get ginge foundation, otherwise i might just let it all grow out, for now at least…

i also might mention that my unofficial photoshop has “expired” and i don’t care to purchase it so i have been using pixlr for my photo editing and filters.

dear mae,

last week i was out walking tony, and getting the mail when he pulled me a direction we don’t normally walk. i was busy flipping though a catalog or something while walking when someone called from behind me. it was a gentleman asking if i had had any maternity photos taken and if i would like to.  i said i hadn’t, just ones my husband had taken but would be interested, even though i’m about to pop.  we decided to do it as soon as possible, it was a real spur of the moment thing!

we got together this weekend in the “20%” chance of downpours at the local park and had an absolutely lovely time! i’ve been stalking my email ever since awaiting the arrival of the photos, and now they are here!

tom and i haven’t had our picture taken together since our wedding, and it was a lot of fun! we kind of just went for a casual walk in the park with our dog and dan mostly followed along with his camera stopping us every once in a while near a cool tree or barn.  he did a wonderful job of capturing our relationship as well as our expanding family.  i’ll probably end up calling him when baby gets here for some more shots!

you can see the rest of the pictures on his facebook, and if you live in the portland metro area i would highly recommend checking out his website if you are in need of any kind of photography!

oh, i’m also going to take this time to mention, why don’t you live here? can’t you see how lovely it is?

dear mae,

for mother’s day (my first one!) tom took me into portland for breakfast and some light shopping (before i got super pooped and had to go home).  he stepped into lush with me and said, “yeah, just get whatever you want, i have to wait outside. it’s smelly in here.” awe, how sweet…. but really it is, that’s his way of saying “i love you, darling, why don’t you treat yourself to some lovely soaps and such, and i’ll wait outside so as not to deter or rush you, whatever you want, love.”

so, i took my time and smelled each bath bomb and picked a few that i loved from past experiences, and a couple of new ones, and gabbed and sampled and lusted and came away with a bunch of goodies. so much fun to shop there, if sometimes a little overwhelming (and a little smelly).

anywho, today i started my maternity leave, and doggoneit, i started it right.  had a gal pal and her baby over for dinner, watched peter davison defeat some cybermen while i painted my nails, and then bath time.  right now bath time is a bit of a double edged sword in that i can’t have the water too hot, my belly can’t fit under the water (apartment bathtub grrr) and it’s very hard to get in and out of, but on the other hand, i can appreciate it so much more, my muscles feel so relaxed and i can sit in there for an hour without even thinking about getting out.

tonight i went for a rosy theme, which happens to be one of my favorite scents of all time. i’m longing for some of the rose tea i got from the test gardens last summer with my mom.  first i ran my bath over the madame butterfly reusabubble bubble bar filling my bath with pink suds and a rosy aroma, yet shortly after getting into the tub i was left with nothing but pink water (this product is no longer availible on lush’s website, maybe this is why).   so when that was done with i tossed in a tisty tosty bath bomb because i was feeling a bit jipped, and this totaly did the trick. it smells so good i felt like it was a waste to drain the sweet smelling water.  something in it reminds me of tinker bell makeup from when i was a kid, but i can’t place it.  and now it’s time to relax with a cup of tea and some granny squares.  i keep sniffing my arms, i smell so good….

those are real little rosebuds in there! maybe i’ll remember to take them out of the tub before tom steps on them thinking they are weird wet dead bugs in the bath. or maybe i won’t.

i know the rest of my maternity leave isn’t going to smell nearly this pleasant or be this relaxing, but i’m wholeheartedly looking forward to it. tomorrow i’m having some professional photos taken but other than that i’ve got nothing on my calender but baby birthing and child rearing!

dear mae,

while baby is due in a mere 12 days (!!!!) i can’t stop trying to make sure everything is absolutely perfect for him.  boiling bottles, sizing onesies in the closet, buying things like nipple cream (tmi?).  gosh, it’s a whole lot of things you never thought you would see yourself doing.  it sometimes freaks me out, i know tom gets weirded out with the talk of breast pumps and diaper cream, but soon enough these will be everyday normal things around here…. les sigh… parenthood.

but anyway, there is a much more adorable side of pending motherhood and it is all at the end of the hallway in the nursery:

tom and i have always collected vintage board games and for the last couple years we haven’t really been playing them, but the boards themselves make fantastic art.  they are just loosely pinned to the wall so we can take them down if we ever want to play risk or clue or go for broke.  plus my granny square afghan is getting really big! I’m intending on working on it and using it for “tummy time” in the living room until i either run out of yarn (ha) or get bored with it (more likely).
i love these old fisher price toys from goodwill  and i was so excited to get a sophie giraffe at my baby shower! i’m sure she’s gonna get lots of lovin’ and squeezin’!lots of books, with lots more to come i’m sure! my favorite toy is the set of blocks hiding away in the big red basket with the monkey, oh, and the otter pops box is full of matchbox cars that tom has been buying since we found out we were pregnant.

i think the nursery might be done… i keep saying that, and then making another big change.  the dresser is still quite ugly and is awaiting some kind of inspiration. i’m thinking perhaps wood-grain contact paper stripes… or something…

well, just maybe my next post will be an introduction to my little guy, who knows?

❤ betty

p.s. you can see more pictures at apartment therapy, but i wish i would have had the foresight to wait until the room was more complete before submitting it!

dear mae,

i’m getting down to the wire, and to be honest, it’s boring. this may or may not be the last time in my entire life that i can actually claim boredom.  i put together a nice “mom look” today to go run some errands and clean house (i hate the term nesting).  i put my hair up in a turban threw on some eyeliner and lipstick (as i was running out the door to catch the bus), i’m really stretching my maternity wardrobe now (literally, these pants are barley holding at the seams, i didn’t realize that this big belly came with a matching butt and thighs).

vintage scarf courtesy of a new dress a day giveaway!

holy crap stunned look on my face.  that is a huge belly.

and nothing better than a wack-a-doodle self portrait to make your own mom look more normal.

anyway, i’m down to the final stretch, only 23 days until my due date, so basically any day now! i can hardly believe it! i’ve made a few minor adjustments in the nursery i plan on sharing with you before the week is through assuming i don’t get caught up in the rest of my to do list, or something even more exciting!

❤ betty

p.s. have you seen my nursery on apartment therapy? i’m pretty proud!

dear maemers,

it just occurred to me that the last pictures i posted of myself were the first ones i took of my teeny tiny bump, and gosh do i look different now!  i apologize, but you have no idea how hard it is to get dressed when your size changes every other week. i mostly (even though i promised it wouldn’t) just wear pj’s around the house to avoid buying a whole new wardrobe for just a couple of seasons.  however, i did find this lovely frock hanging out in the back of my closet, and by glory it fits! and looks nice to boot! it used to belong to my mom and she handed it over to me a couple of years ago. the last time she had worn it she was pregnant with my baby (22 year old) brother.

huh, from the backside, i don’t even necessarily look pregnant!

oops, i spoke too soon!
and a little fisheye action on the bump.

the weather is finally warming up and more importantly drying out here, and has inspired me to at least do my hair from time to time which makes all of the difference even with my work attire or maternity jeans and tee shirts.  only one month left until i have my body back to myself and i get to start shedding my maternity butt, and squeezing back into some of my old clothes! oh yeah, and of course meeting my amazing little fella!

dear mae,

so far for me, the best part about being pregnant is collecting all of the tiny little sweet smelling baby items i’ll need when my little guy finally gets here.  i’ve been painting old furniture, sewing curtains, crafting like a mad woman…. and it’s awesome.  finally his little corner of the world is coming together ready for late night feedings, story book reading, diaper changes, and i’m certain it’s never going to look this nice again, so i’d better get some pictures up before he gets here and destroys his beautiful nursery!

art is from land of nod and ikea, crib is from target and the deer pillow was my very first baby craft

both lamps are goodwill finds, the red one got a fresh coat of paint, but the blue one already fit in just right!baby doesn’t have a whole lot of toys  of his own just yet, so tom’s robot collection is saving a shelf for now.this globe is another brilliant goodwill find, only $6!
oh, my baby stands no chance but to be a nerd…. i spy a dalek and a tardis, a gameboy, superman, number twenty four, maths…. and that’s only on one side of his room!

i’ve been spending a lot of time in this little room, and it’s becoming quite cozy, i hope my little guy likes it in there as much as i do!

betty

p.s. my personal favorite part is the marquee letter lights! i made them myself for less that $20 with this tutorial!
