dear mae,

i’ve got an itch for some new glasses. i’m thinking i need a pair of 1960’s round frames. they aren’t exactly in my budget right now, but i still had fun trying on a few pairs of frames at hollywood vintage.  i’m thinking a new pair would make a fantastic christmas gift from my loving husband (are you reading this?).  these were a few of my favorites:

my desire for round frames is inspired by edith head, and winston churchill. can you have classier inspiration? i think not. the third pair is my favorite. or maybe it’s just that picture, what do you think? do they suit me?

dear mae,

i’m getting down to the wire, and to be honest, it’s boring. this may or may not be the last time in my entire life that i can actually claim boredom.  i put together a nice “mom look” today to go run some errands and clean house (i hate the term nesting).  i put my hair up in a turban threw on some eyeliner and lipstick (as i was running out the door to catch the bus), i’m really stretching my maternity wardrobe now (literally, these pants are barley holding at the seams, i didn’t realize that this big belly came with a matching butt and thighs).

vintage scarf courtesy of a new dress a day giveaway!

holy crap stunned look on my face.  that is a huge belly.

and nothing better than a wack-a-doodle self portrait to make your own mom look more normal.

anyway, i’m down to the final stretch, only 23 days until my due date, so basically any day now! i can hardly believe it! i’ve made a few minor adjustments in the nursery i plan on sharing with you before the week is through assuming i don’t get caught up in the rest of my to do list, or something even more exciting!

❤ betty

p.s. have you seen my nursery on apartment therapy? i’m pretty proud!

dear maemers,

it just occurred to me that the last pictures i posted of myself were the first ones i took of my teeny tiny bump, and gosh do i look different now!  i apologize, but you have no idea how hard it is to get dressed when your size changes every other week. i mostly (even though i promised it wouldn’t) just wear pj’s around the house to avoid buying a whole new wardrobe for just a couple of seasons.  however, i did find this lovely frock hanging out in the back of my closet, and by glory it fits! and looks nice to boot! it used to belong to my mom and she handed it over to me a couple of years ago. the last time she had worn it she was pregnant with my baby (22 year old) brother.

huh, from the backside, i don’t even necessarily look pregnant!

oops, i spoke too soon!
and a little fisheye action on the bump.

the weather is finally warming up and more importantly drying out here, and has inspired me to at least do my hair from time to time which makes all of the difference even with my work attire or maternity jeans and tee shirts.  only one month left until i have my body back to myself and i get to start shedding my maternity butt, and squeezing back into some of my old clothes! oh yeah, and of course meeting my amazing little fella!

dear mae,

sorry it’s been such a long time between posts, but this pregnancy thing is exhausting! any free time i get between work and doctors visits i spend knitting on the couch or laying my sore back on a heating pad.  plus it’s hard to feel pretty when none of my clothes fit.

on the other hand tom has been looking supper dandy as of late.  i feel as though i should be a bit jealous as i squeeze skirts over my ever expanding belly, but it sure is nice to have something good looking across the breakfast table from me.

sometimes i do manage to pull myself together long enough for a breakfast date, and sometimes we even go above and beyond and coordinate our outfits. nerds, i know. sometimes we don’t even do it on purpose, we are just that cute.

dear mae,

last night i had a bit of a blast from the past when i found Unzipped on netflix.  that movie was such and inspiration to me when i was in college, i wanted to grow up to be isaac mizrahi.  i wanted his hair, his sunglasses, his job, his super model friends and posh lifestyle.  i still want his black laquer piano and his zebra skin rug.  the movie is phenomenal, if you haven’t seen it.  i love the styling of it, it’s gritty and dark and behind the scenes, with bursts of sunshine and color and glamour sprinkled throughout.  isaac cracks me up with his old movie quotes like “y’arn’t ever gorna leave this house…”

my favorite scene is in the beginning when isaac is confessing to his mother how he used to steal money from her every day as a child and was astonished to find out she never knew.  well, go ahead and watch it on netflix tonight and tell me what you think! i also saw a documentary on vidal sassoon that i might watch this afternoon before tomg gets home from work.

dear mae,

you know it’s that time of year, the time of year when you tuck away all of those light, summery dressses into boxes and bins under beds, and in basements, to make room for all of the heavy knits and wools of fall…. or we can squeeze a few more wears out of our summer clothes with just a bit of creative accessorizing and layering:

  • try a long sleeve tee under a sundress for a jumper look
  • keep those gams toasty under some tights, leg warmers, leggings or tall socks
  • the shoes make the outfit! wear a sundress with some galoshes or boots
  • cardigans, jackets, and blazers can warm up any look
  • add a hat and a scarf, then go check out those blushing elms!
i’ve never been lucky enough to have a rotating wardrobe, with exception of a few heavy knits, but being thrifty has gotten me a lot more wear out of my clothes.
all you need is a little color coordination and make anything fit with the season.

dear mae,

i love fall! socks, loafers, cardigans, i could go on…. it’s getting chilly out here already, and at the first sign of cool weather i break out some knee socks.  so, maybe it’s not really chilly, but it’s definitly not hot out.  so maybe i’ll sport a summer dress, with some fall footwear.  i think it’s because i got a pumpkin spice latte the other day, (and every day since!) but i’m in the mood for some fall fashions!!

i found this dress on a table with a sign that said “pay what you’d like”  in front of bohemian vintage. at that time it was a full length mu-mu, with long sleeves.  just a few snips and a bit of a nip, it’s a lot more fashionable!

in other news, i can’t seem to make my hair into a proper bouffant without it parting down the middle about an hour after teasing it like crazy.  i think i might need to go get some more hairspray.

❤ always,

betty
